Education and Scholarship
For over 20 years, One Hundred Black Men has provided scholarships based on academic performance, community service and financial need to seniors in New York City public schools who have been accepted into an accredited college or university. As the founder and sponsors for The Eagle Academy Foundation, scholarships are also given to Eagle Academy graduates.
We are demonstrating our commitment by providing scholarships and mentors to deserving students. One of our proudest achievements yet is the established Eagle Academy for Young men www.eafny.org. Both schools in the Bronx and Brooklyn are sponsored by One Hundred Black Men for grades 6 through 12. The first school opened in September 2004 and graduated its first class in June 2008. Our collaborative mentoring programs continue to make a significant impact on the academic and personal development of the Eagle students; 85% of the seniors at the Bronx school graduated in June 2009. The Eagle Academy graduation rate is substantially higher than that of minority males in New York City public schools. A new building is being constructed for the school and will be open to its students in 2010. The second Eagle Academy opened in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn in 2008.
