Activities and Events for
2024 – 2025

OHBM provides service in three specific areas:
Education & Mentoring; Health & Wellness; and Economic Empowerment.
We work with corporate partners to meet our mutually desired outcomes. Aggregated below are our annual events, providing purpose, location, and a brief description coupled with specific opportunities curated to our partner relationships.
All contributions support OHBM programming and operations.

The Jr. One Hundred (JOH) is OHBM’s signature youth program that caters to middle, high, and college students. Our objective is to provide scholastic support, life-skills, scholarships, career path opportunities, internships, and adult to youth mentorship. We look to our corporate partners and members to serve as mentors and provide outlets for increased exposure for our scholars. Including: work-shadow days, career days, field trips, community service opportunities, summer internships and work opportunities.

5-Borough
Hunger Relief

Multiple worship houses throughout New York City

Annually, OHBM works with New York urban faith institutions to ensure that food insecure New Yorkers have food and groceries for their homes; much of our service areas are the African American and Latin American communities. This is an opportunity for your employees to join with OHBM members to distribute food at food-pantries across the city.

OHBM members welcome new members into the fold. We share our history, programmatic thrusts, introduce our staff and partners.

Celebration

Virtual

This is a virtual Dr. King celebration. During this activation we invite our partners, members, Jr. 100 scholars, community groups and others to tune in for a topic-driven panel discussion and keynote address about Dr. King’s contributions to America. During the activation, partners are asked to facilitate topical breakout sessions; there are games and prizes for scholars; while corporate partners and members have an opportunity to interact with the JOH scholars they support.

Men’s Business Suit Giveaway

Union Baptist Church

This activation is targeted towards men who need a suit for interviewing purposes; men who are “just coming home” or formerly incarcerated; male students and anyone else in need of clothing. Members and friends typically donate gently used suits, pants, shoes, sneakers, and shirts. The community is invited to select the garments that they fancy without charge or obligation. This is an opportunity for our corporate partners to donate suits, shirts, shoes, and volunteer in the day long clothing distribution.

Annual Benefit Gala

Chelsea Piers, Pier 60

The annual benefit gala is OHBMs signature fundraiser which anchors our ability to provide programming and operations. The evening is themed but always targets our core concentration areas: education and mentoring; health and wellness; and economic empowerment. Honorees are selected against specific OHBM awards for their unique contributions to the community and the world. Corporate partners are invited to purchase tables and journal ads, recommend honorees, and be recognized for their community contributions and relationship to OHBM.
This event is Black Tie.

April

JOHJASz Brunch
(Junior One Hundred Jazz All-Stars)

TBD

OHBM boasts some very talented youth musicians and artists. This activation is meant to simultaneously highlight their talents and introduce potential partners to OHBM. This is a cultivation activation. We ask that our corporate partners be available for this event and introduce OHBM to others whose philanthropic interests align with our own.

June 19

Juneteenth
Celebration

Virtual

Like the MLK activation, this is a virtual program tailored to engage scholars, partners, and members in a format that includes a keynote, panel discussion, breakout room discussions, supported with games and prizes for scholars. The topic always surrounds the history and significance of Juneteenth and African American emancipation. During the program, partners are asked to facilitate topical breakout sessions; there are games and prizes for scholars; additionally, this is an opportunity for corporate partners and members to deepen their interaction with the Jr. 100 scholars they support.

July / August

Annual Dr. Roscoe C. Brown Golf Classic /
PGA Beyond the Green

Ardsley Country Club, Dobbs Ferry, NY

This is our second largest fundraiser, crafted as a three-part golf outing: Days one and two are directed towards our golfing community and serving our retired and senior citizen population. Golfers tee off in the morning after which Seniors are bussed to the country club for a day of education, learning and activity; each day draws a different senior community. This unique opportunity provides a captive Senior audience with whom our corporate partners my “tee up” and address services unique to their industry. Last year we focused on health, this year we will focus on financial health, wealth, and financial resilience.

Day three, sponsored by the PGA of America, is a culminating golf day for 20-25 youth golfers (mostly beginners) to practice and play with PGA professionals. An additional 40-60 youth come to the country club to golf and participate in a beyond-the-green symposium that teaches youth about golf career opportunities that do not necessarily require one to be a golfer. The PGA works with OHBM to get golf clubs in the hands of urban youth, who might not otherwise have access to the game.

August

Summer Real Talk
Martha’s Vineyard

Martha’s Vineyard, MA

This activation is designed to bring together thought leaders for discussion about relevant topics effecting African Americans. The activation is led by a moderator, with either a panel focus or general discussion. This past year the real talk discussion focused on African Americans and the vote. Sponsoring corporate partners are invited to panel and invite guests to this invitation only event. Part of this discussion is recorded, and dinner is provided.

End of August

OHBM-NY
Family Day

Glenn Island Park, New Rochelle, NY

OHBM invites members, corporate partners, family and friends to participate in a “last days of summer” family friendly party/picnic. Including food, beverage, music, games, and conversation.

Second Sunday in September

African-American Day
Parade

Harlem, NY

A parade that launches on 110th Street along 7th Avenue through 140th Street. The day is a public showing of the many civic, law enforcement, corporate, and not-for-profit organizations that support “the community” in Harlem and beyond. We would like our corporate partners to walk with us, advertise on our float and fellowship with us during and immediately following the parade.

TBD
